 The President of the SINAP participates in BrasÃlia in a Meeting Feb. 16th /2006 - Yesterday by the morning the president of the SINAP, Iduigues Ferreira Martins, participated in a meeting made by the Ministry of the Work and the Job, to talk on the problematic faced by the workers of Coelho Neto, in Maranhão. The Governor of the State, Jose Reinaldo Tavares, the mayor of Coelho Neto Carlos Magno Duque Bacelar, the Secretary of State of Maranhão, Paulo Roberto Monclaro Mury; the federal deputies João Castelo; Sebastião Madeira and Teresinha Fernandez had participated in the meeting. The state deputy Soliney Silva was one of the responsible for several denunciations that contributed for the accomplishment of the meeting yesterday. The company suspended the activities in December and already fired about 900 workers so far without the payment of the salaries and the FGTS that is not deposited since 1997. The social impact in the region is great, in the city with about 44 thousand inhabitants, the dismissal of the workers of the Itapagé and Agrimex companies affects all the local economy, since the city Coelho Neto for more than 30 years has lived and has grown depending on the plants of the Group João Santos. The local commerce and other companies who had appeared in function of these industries are now threatened. The Minister of the Work and Job, Luiz Marinho, assumed the commitment to convoke the direction of the Group João Santos to discuss the situation of the workers. |
